1. Introduction
EM2V ("we", "our", "us") is an alumni membership platform operated by Britco. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal data when you use the EM2V mobile application.
By using the app, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the app.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Account & Profile Information
When you register and use the app, we collect:
- Phone number (used for OTP verification during signup/login)
- Full name and email address
- Alumni details (graduation year, faculty, district, institution, etc.)
- Profile photo (if uploaded)
- Password (stored in hashed form; never visible to us in plain text)
2.2 Authentication Data
We store access tokens and refresh tokens locally on your device using secure, encrypted storage. These tokens are used to authenticate your API requests and are transmitted securely to our servers.
2.3 Push Notifications
With your permission, we collect a device push token (Expo Push Token) to send you notifications about opportunities, events, messages, and platform updates. You may disable notifications at any time through your device settings.
2.4 Usage Data
We may collect basic technical information such as:
- App version and device type
- Log data for debugging and error tracking
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your data for the following purposes:
- Authentication & access control — verifying your identity and managing sessions
- Alumni networking — enabling connections between alumni members
- Opportunities & events — notifying you of relevant career opportunities, events, and community activities
- Push notifications — keeping you informed of messages, requests, and platform updates
- App improvement — fixing bugs and improving stability
4. Data Storage & Security
- Authentication tokens are stored locally on your device using expo-secure-store, which leverages platform-native encrypted storage (Keychain on iOS, EncryptedSharedPreferences on Android).
- All communication between the app and our servers uses HTTPS/TLS encryption.
- Profile data is stored on our secure servers and is only accessible to authorized personnel for app administration purposes.
- We do not store passwords in plain text — they are hashed using industry-standard algorithms on the server side.
5. Data Sharing & Disclosure
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.
Your data may be shared only in the following limited circumstances:
- Between members: Your public profile information (name, graduation details, photo) is visible to other verified alumni on the platform to facilitate networking.
- Service providers: We use Expo (for push notifications and cloud infrastructure) and Google Cloud (for hosting). These providers process data on our behalf and are bound by confidentiality obligations.
- Legal compliance: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government regulation.
6. Third-Party Services
The app integrates with the following third-party services:
- Expo (expo.dev) — Push notification delivery via Expo Push Notifications service. Expo may process device tokens and notification content.
- Google Cloud / Firebase — Cloud hosting and infrastructure. Refer to Google's Privacy Policy for details.
We do not integrate third-party advertising SDKs, analytics trackers, or social media data collection tools.
7. Your Rights & Choices
- Access & update: You can view and update your profile information at any time within the app.
- Delete your account: You may request account deletion by contacting us (see Section 10). We will permanently delete your personal data within 30 days, subject to any legal retention requirements.
- Notifications: You may disable push notifications at any time through your device's OS settings.
- Data portability: You may request a copy of your data by contacting us.
8. Children's Privacy
The EM2V app is intended for adult alumni users only. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under the age of 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, we will take steps to delete such information.
9. Data Retention
We retain your personal data for as long as your account remains active or as needed to provide you services. Upon account deletion, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or regulatory purposes.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
